    Dertien jaar geleden klom de Schotse familie Ackerman aan boord van de Mayfair, op zoek naar land waar ze een nieuwe thuis konden stichten: land waar geen monsters waren, land waarmee ze de macht van de Gemeenschap konden veilig stellen en uitbreiden, en waar ze hun kinderen veilig konden trainen zonder dat weerwolven of vampiers hen het leven zuur maakten. Alleen was een kleine groep vampiers hen voor. Zij wilden ook een nieuwe thuis, een veilige haven; hun leider was al eeuwenlang vastberaden om die voor hen te zoeken omdat in Europa geen plek meer bleek te zijn.
          De Gemeenschap wilde niet ophoepelen. Hoe konden ze dat ook? Vampiers hadden het recht niet om zomaar een stuk land te claimen. De Eerste Kolonie had al zo'n groot grondgebied in Europa - konden ze de rest van de wereld niet alleen laten?
          In de laatste dertien jaar zijn de spanningen opgelopen en hebben zich twee kampen gevormd: de Gemeenschap van Jagers, die ondertussen uitgebreid waren tot dertien families met de Ackermans aan het hoofd, en het groepje vampiers dat zij 'de rebellen' dubden, onder leiding van de legendarische, gevreesde vampier Helias Vanparys. Noord versus zuid, met enkel een rivier die hen van elkaar gescheiden houdt. Geen van beiden is gelukkig met het grondgebied dat ze hebben en willen de ander weg. Een gulden middenweg lijkt onbestaand, zeker wanneer het nieuws de oceaan oversteekt en Greenstone stilaan een haven wordt voor gevluchte piraten. Sommigen van hen zijn Europese vampiers die deel willen uitmaken van de nieuwe kolonie in Amerika. Anderen zijn vampiers die uit zijn op bloed en van de chaos gebruik willen maken. Dan zijn er de Jagers, die hun soortgenoten willen bijstaan - maar ook de Jagers die alleen zijn en de mogelijkheid zien om die institutionele Community onderuit te halen. Ten slotte is er de groep die liever onbekend blijft; weerwolven, gewone burgers en piraten die Greenstone opzoeken om de onbekendheid op te zoeken tussen al die andere bovennatuurlijke wezens die toch te veel kabaal maken om nog andere stemmen op te merken. In ieder geval begint de spanning een hoogtepunt te bereiken; zowel in Greenstone zelf als op zee, waar schepen met bovennatuurlijke bemanningen strijden voor hetgeen waarin ze geloven. Of gewoon voor de lol. Niemand die het echt duidelijk lijkt te weten. Niemand die weet hoe dit wetteloze stukje grond ooit verder zal komen dan één bloederige slachting.

    Vamps: want to expand the First Colony from Europe and just wanna live their lives alongside some humans who don't mind having their blood drunk

    Part of the Ackerman clan and the nephew of the family leader.
    He's too young to have an actual position within higher up Ackerman ranks and he has a lot of calming down to do before he can actually get one. He usually does participate in hunts and is very invested in everything that the Community does. He's proud of his heritage, but also wasn't really on board with the plan to just pack up and leave.

    Punch first. Ask questions while punching.
    Reed gets into fights. Reed gets into fights a lot. He's not necessarily cruel but gets provoked easily and will often throw the first punch, because he has an attitude and lacks patience. The whole settlement of Greenstone in general probably knows about the short-tempered Ackerman by now. People who are smart refrain from 'poking the bear'. Although if the people he's with incite something and stir up a fight, he is almost sure to start something. Luckily for the other parties, he does listen to reason from the people who he holds in high regard. The smartest move is most of the time to have a bomb squad around the young hunter to defuse strained situations.


    Rich boys don't have hearts.
    Being part of a rich and successful hunter family can get you places and Reed knows this all too well. He will sometimes take it a bit too far with his haughty rich boy attitude. His friends will be able to, safely, knock him a peg or two, but if someone else will try to, we'll be right back to part one of this description. Just because they, quote unquote, tried to slander his (and his family's) reputation.


    Be so good they CAN'T ignore you.
    Despite his flippant nature, he does have the ability to hyperfocus on certain things. The first thing he ever got obsessed with was his hunter training. As young child he tried all the weapons offered to him before deciding he wanted the crossbow to be weapon of choice. Besides the bow, his hand to hand was also something he trained well.
    He never lost his ambition for hunting, nor the feeling of the thrill it will bring him, but as a functioning part of society, Reed has taken a shine to woodworking. More specifically ship building. He will take on projects as a shipwright in the harbor when he feels life is going too slow. It brings in a nice amount of money. Not that he's scraping by, but you know, money's nice.

    Reed is very protective about his family. The Ackerman name is very important to him and he'll move heaven and earth to protect them and those who fall under their wings. It's also a big reason why he was so successful in his hunter training, his will to do good for his family won from his reckless behavior. He will go down with that ship if need be, especially for his twin. If he decides you're in his inner circle, it's his circus and you're one of the monkeys in it. That does not mean his heart cannot be tested, you just have to appeal to his logic, although this is not an easy thing to do.


    Where it is? With the other shit I forgot about.
    The young hunter is one to forget his head if it wasn't attached to his neck. Everything that is not either his woodworking tools or hunter gear is deemed of lesser importance to Reed. Where did he leave the bucket? He doesn't know, last seen: yesterday evening at the workshop. Current location? Unknown. He did get scolded a lot for this when he was a child, but ever since he stopped forgetting his knife on his father's chair, it seemed like the scolding stopped. The fact that he 'misplaced' that one book about vegetation wasn't that much of a problem.


    Trust my rage.
    The emotional constipation is big in this one. Reed is not one to keep any other emotions on display other than anger and his happy, sassy self. He's not allowed to be sad, nor show how overly excited he is about things. Or that's the mold he pushes himself into. All the emotions he does not agree on, he pushes into the fires of his rage. If he ever lets go, he'll do so with his sister Finn, but that's allowed because they're basically the same person, or so he tells himself.


    His grin was always halfway a smile,

    If he's around people he trusts, he will joke around and seem like a overall happy guy. Although he might come across as slightly cocky, his close friends will notice a difference in attitude in the young hunter. Reed let's go of himself a bit more around his close circle and he seems to stop caring about stuff like reputation and honor when he's surrounded by friends. There's some kind of edge that seems to disappear.


    Oh, do tell me more.
    Reed is a very curious little hunter and he likes to know all the latest gossip and rumors going around. Some he might hear blowing in the wind, others he'll punch out of people all by himself. He's also a very sassy person and tries to find the most colorful clapbacks known to man. His abrasive nature just gives him a head start at giving the impression he owns no more than a singular brain cell.


    Does the idea of failure scare you?
    Reed is an assertive person who is willing to make decisions on the spot, despite the option of failure. This can be seen as him taking risks he shouldn't or him failing forward. The consequences to his actions might bite him in the ass later, but he will usually deal with them when they arise. If something particularly bad happens, he will be the first one to stand up and own up for his mistakes. Although Reed has noticed the benefits oftentimes outweigh the risks.


    I'm not in danger. I am the danger.
    Reed has your back if he decides you are worth trusting. This trust extends to hunters by default. He's a nice addition to your team because he's willing to do a lot with not a lot of questions, as long as the goal is clear, he'll most likely just do it. However, there is a big need to be cautious. If you team Reed up with a person that will either push his buttons, can't keep up with him or someone who eggs him on you may experience problems. He is known to take risks and it is of vital importance to let him either hunt alone, where he makes his own risks, or with a person that is grounded and calm for the best end result.


    I may have the right to remain silent,
                      but I sure as hell don't have the ability.

    Reed is quite a boisterous person by nature. It's not a front he wants to set, it's just the way he is. You usually hear him before you see him, which will probably have a certain effect on some people. You might think he is an attention seeker because of his loudness, but he's never really loud because he wants people to know he's there, he just is.
    While hunting, he does know to be silent, because being loud while hunting is stupid and could cost him his life, thus said Reed.


    Of course I brought a flintlock to the swordfight!
    To complete his hunts, Reed is not averse to underhanded or unorthodox tactics. With his eyes on the prize, he might do some things that people will experience as 'unfair', but to Reed fair is not an option in a fight with supernatural creatures. They have advantages he does not have, so he'll create his own. This is also how he counteracts unpredictability in 'normal' fights, by calculating in some fail saves where needed.

    〚Appearance〛

    Reed's intimidation factor is not found in his height. The young hunter's height is 173 centimeters and he's not at all the tallest of the bunch. The hunter training and dragging around heavy pieces of wood have made sure that Reed has an athletic build. He's slightly lanky as well, as he seems to have longer arms and legs.

    Reed's missing the upper phalange of this left hand ring finger. He lost the piece of finger because of a misfire on a faulty crossbow. The mechanism to re-engage the bow malfunctioned and shot loose while he was holding it and it pulverized the phalange. They had to amputate the piece of finger because it was too mangled to heal properly. The event did prompt Reed into checking his equipment on a more regular basis.

    Reed has blue eyes that are only obviously blue when the light hits them right. If the weather is dark, they will appear a more dark gray-ish color if you look quickly.

    Being as stupid and reckless as he is, the young hunter has a lot of scarring from injuries. He tends to pick at the scabbing too, which usually makes the scars appear more obvious. One of the most visible ones is the one in his face: the nick on his left upper lip. This one is from a twin related accident in which Reed wanted to steal a piece of apple from his sister, who tried to defend her food from Reed, with the knife still in her hand. He moved backwards, but she still ended up hitting his lip in the motion. The scar has fainted quite a bit, but gets more obvious in the summer when he's more tan.
    Another obvious one is one you can see if he wears no shirt. He has claw marks from a werewolf hunt gone wrong on his waist at the right side of his body. It took him quite a while to heal from that one too. The last big one is burnmark on his right forearm from when he got stupid drunk after the elders decided to split him from his sister as partners.

    The hunter has one ear pierced like you would oftentimes see with sailors. He wears a small hoop silver earring in it.

    Reed has quite the expressive face. You can oftentimes read his emotions from his face. Although oftentimes his face says storm because of his anger. When he laughs, his whole face lights up. But the emotions he shows are very straightforward: he will not fake laugh for the sake of others. He knows he also has the ability to show the puppy dog look, but he only uses this to try and get people to develop some sense of sympathy for him most of the times.

Master shipwrights meticulously crafted vessels by hand using tools such as axes, adzes, and saws to shape wooden hulls. These ships were typically constructed from sturdy materials like oak and were designed to withstand the rigors of long voyages and naval battles. Each vessel was a testament to the skill and expertise of the shipbuilders, reflecting the maritime prowess of the era.

    FLINTLOCK
          Reed almost always carries a flintlock around under his coat. He usually refrains from using the weapons, only using it as backhanded tactic if things are starting to look bad for him in a fight. Occasionally he will carry two, bust most of the time, it's just the one.

    DAGGERS
          Daggers are basic kit for the young hunter. The ornate one from Misha's hands he carries horizontal at his back in a scabbard. This one is the longest out of the two, although it is still too small if you ask the Russian craftsman.
    The second one is smaller blade, that's concealed in his boot as a rescue measure.


    HAND TO HAND
          As his secondary choice in combat, Reed usually resorts to close-range hand to hand combat. This might seem like a weird choice for a marksman, but it is what makes him such a well-rounded hunter in the first place. If he loses his advantage in the long range, he can still fight it out with his fists in close combat.

    AXE
          Although Reed uses his axe more often as a tool than a weapon, he does know his way around his gear. If you can split wood, why not monsters?


                      Skills

    SHIP BUILDING ⌖
                            WOODWORKING

          Reed's passion for woodworking started in his youth, where he found a way to turn punishments into joy. The temperamental hunter got disciplined quite often and having to sit right outside of the woods while the others were having fun wasn't the best time. To pass the time he started carving on a block of firewood. It started out as arrow shafts, but he soon tried out new things, getting the hang of a useful skill while the other children were playing around.
    As he got older he would try to sneak of with the lumberjacks to help them out whenever he could. When they made the big traverse, he focused on the hunting at first, but after the split with Finn and some other accidents, he started learning more and more ship building skills from the shipwrights that were already there.
    Now he will help on a project whenever his duties allow him to do so. He hopes to one day lead a build himself or just build a boat for his adventuring twin.


    SURVIVAL
          With his background of helping out the lumberjacks and the hunter training, Reed has some good understanding of survival and living in the woods for extended periods of time. Next to getting fires started, knowing what he can and cannot eat and what to do with predators that aren't monsters, he can build one hell of a shelter if he can find the right tools or improvise something that could work.


          - "Will you come with me?"

    "I can't or more, I won't. I will not stop you either though. I know sitting still ain't your style." he says while he gently shoves her in the side.
    "No leaving without notion though, I will haunt your ass if you do that."

    Reed was firstborn of a set of twins. His sister Finn was born 10 minutes after he cried his lungs out. As a baby Reed was sick a lot, much to the concern of his parents because his twin sister fared loads better. He got through the hardest years. He was walking and talking at a young stage as a little child though. Like he had too much pent up energy despite his sickness.

    Hunter training [1612]
    The twin's first training was really something, although the theory couldn't really entice Reed to pay all the attention he had. Not that he needed to have it from his strength, because him being sick a lot made him quite weak to start out the hunter training. Young Reed tried out all the weapon options before deciding on what he wanted to master. At least he knew heavy weapons were not his thing after some embarrassing moments of him swinging a longsword and letting it slip from his hands into the onlookers. He ended up settling with crossbows, because it was a lot of power, but enough that he could handle with his then noodle arms. As soon as the pairing was done, he got paired with Finn, it was the obvious choice. After his shitty solo start, as a team the young hunter did a lot better. Finn and himself had great synergy and he picked up some basic hand-to-hand combat. As they got older the rose from the bottom of the class to the top because impeccable teamwork.

    Working together wasn't the only thing they did well together though. They got each other in a lot of trouble and mischief. All the hunters around would call them the terror twins because of how much shit they pulled in the village.

    When Reed first heard of the idea to sail to 'unknown' lands to resettle the Ackermans, he did not like the idea. When their father told them he would sail with them and take Juniper with him, Reed went into a rage fit the entire village must have heard. When they actually had to leave, he did not visibly show to say goodbye, but stood hidden off to the side to watch them go. Finn had his back at the time, just standing by his side, while he cried. All angry tears if anyone would ever ask him

    Crossing the big water [1623]
    Three years later it's finally their turn to sail the seas to Greenstone. Reed quite enjoyed his time on the ship to their new home, impressed by the craftsmanship of the vessel. He liked to feel the sea breeze in his face. Finn obviously did even better while sailing. Their younger brother had it worse, having to puke over the railing more often than not.
    After crossing they settled with the rest of the Ackermans in the Silverhouse and after a period of adjusting, life resumed as usual.

    The split [1624]
    After a particularly dangerous hunt, where both Finn and Reed made decisions that endangered the other hunters, the elders decided that their reckless behavior needed repercussions. After a long debate between the elders and their parents, it was decided that Reed and Finn were no longer allowed to hunt side to side as partners. This was received with loud complaints from the pair, but the decision was final.

    For Finn this was the signal to leave, but Reed was too loyal to the family to actually leave with her. However much he wanted to go with her. While she was out at sea, she would send him letters to let him know about her adventures, but he wouldn't talk about them with their parents.

    The accident [1625]
    Reed's reckless behavior did not end with the split. His self preservation went down the drain after he went to hunting solo. At this point he just shouldn't be allowed to hunt, but everyone knew that the terror twins were not to be reasoned with when they were like this, even if it was only one of them.

    One night he was out on a hunt solo, with a few duos. They were sweeping a perimeter for a lost kid, when Reed bumped into a werewolf, he assumed it was a rogue, by the blood that was smeared in his coat. The body was nowhere to be seen, but Reed listened in long enough to hear crunching. He shot a silver coated arrow at the wolf, but he did not see the other one stalking behind this one. The new one tried to defend the one he shot and clawed into his side. He screamed and went down, alerting the other hunters and the werewolf that attacked him, seemed to notice the approach of his buddies. The wolf ran even before he could take out his dagger. He just heard the screaming of another hunter before he passed out.

    The slow years [1625 - 1629]
    After his 'accident' Reed was put on bed rest until his waist healed. Although he could not sit still, he for once heeded the warnings when they said he could not hunt until he healed. He started spending a lot more time with the shipwrights. He mostly watched them work at first, but after the made an sneering comment on someone's work, the other challenged him to do it better if could comment on him. Reed took the challenge in stride and embarrassed the senior shipwright by getting it right the first try. The foreman caught wind of this and profusely apologized to Reed. When he asked how Reed wanted to be compensated with Reed just answered like so: "Teach me. And none of the groveling crap." And that's how Reed scored himself an apprenticeship with the shipwrights.

    As years got by, he got better and better at shipbuilding and he gets asked to work on certain projects or even gives his opinions when plans are drawn up. He quite enjoys his newfound hyper fixation, but his heart wil always be with hunting, which he slowly got back into as he healed. He was never left alone again, but he never felt the smooth flow while fighting again as he did with Finn.

    A new partner? [1630]
    Somewhere around 1630 a delegation of Russian hunters comes to the Greenstone shores with a letter from the Vasilyev offering them help. Included with them a blacksmith named Misha. Or so he told Reed upon meeting. After a power evaluation, the Russian decided Reed would do and that was that. Since then, the older of the two has been showing around the Russian in Greenstone. Since the arrival of the Russian group, Reed's in more training programs again than he was since his accident.

    At some point everyone decided the stoic Russian would be good for him. Ocassionally, Reed and Misha would be paired up for hunts, both of them being partnerless. Over time it just naturally grew to a good hunter partnership. The beginning was a struggle due to the language barrier as well, but at one point Reed just started barking basic commands and learned some from Misha in Russian in return. The elders are glad to see Reed on some kind of leash and contained. It showed them that their decision was right and the hunter is in fact able to function on a hunt.

    Finn's return [1633]
    Since a short while Reed has been overjoyed with the return of his twin sister Finn to the coop. Although she is currently on house arrest, Reed will always find ways to break her out of her confinement. Greenstone isn't ready just yet for the wrath of the terror twins.

    FLOWER LANGUAGE
    It might seem a little uncharacteristic, but Reed has knowledge of flower language. He knows the meaning and symbolism of flowers. He found a book about it when he was younger. At this time flower language itself wasn’t something most people were interested in. But the ability to convey a message with a flower is something Reed really finds interesting. Although the little bouquet could also mean ‘fuck you’ in a sense.

    RIGHT HANDED

    SEXUALITY
    Reed's sexuality in today's words would be biromantic demisexual with a preference towards women. It means men aren't out of question for Reed. It also means he is sexually active, but he doesn't really sleep around. With the setting in time, he will only date women though.

    FAVORITE COLOR
    Because of his love for the outdoors and the woods, his favorite color is dark green. More specifically the shade called Douglas Fir by Pantone.

    LOVE LANGUAGE
    Reed's love language is physical tough. He will not force himself upon people, but he will show his affection with hugs, holding his significant other's hand or an arm around their waist. He does these gestures to make them feel secure and because he feels like he isn't good enough with words to actually convey his feelings that way.

    JOB

    SWIMMING
    Reed is an exceptionally good swimmer. When the weather permits it, he likes to swim in the ocean.

    INSTRUMENT
    Reed can play the lute, but not well enough to perform. He learned the basics as a child and picked it up again after his accident out of boredom. He will mostly play for himself by himself and thinks it isn't a real skill he has, even though he's fairly decent at it when he puts in the practice.
