You felt your heart tear itself apart once again. You had gone to a party with your best friend, Erik, and your boyfriend, Zach, at your friend’s house. The party had started out great, but when it was time to leave, your boyfriend decided to spend the night at your friend’s house because he had had quite a bit to drink. You didn’t think much of it, and you drove Erik home and then returned to your apartment.
Now, you stood on the doorstep of Erik’s house at two in the morning with your heart in a million pieces. You rang the bell and waited, attempting to hold back a flood of tears.
“Y/N! What are you-” Erik exclaimed, but was cut off by you throwing yourself into his arms and heaving sob after sob. “Come on, let’s get you inside.” Erik helped you inside and sat you on the couch. He sat next to you, but you immediately crawled into his lap and cried into his chest.
After a few moments of just holding you, Erik whispered, “What happened, love?”
“Z-Zach hooked up with my f-friend,” you sobbed. “She butt dialed me in the middle of it.”
“Shhh, it’ll be okay,” Erik whispered and kissed the top of your head. “I promise.”
You looked up at him and replied, “Pinky promise?”
“Pinky promise,” he answered and intertwined your pinkies. The two of you had done this since you were little. When one of you promised something, the other made them pinky promise. It was kind of your guys’ “thing”.
You leaned up and kissed his cheek. “Thanks for being there for me, Durmie,” you said and giggled, knowing he hated when you called him that.
“How many times have I told you not to call me that?” He asked, feigning offense.
“Um, I lost count after 17,” you replied, giggling.
“You know, for just breaking up, you seem pretty cheerful,” Erik observed.
“That’s because I realized something,” you replied, resting your head back on his chest.
“Oh, please enlighten me,” Erik said sarcastically.
“Sarcasm is rude, Durmie,” you said and playfully hit his leg.
“So is calling people names, y/n,” Erik said and gave you a quick tickle causing you to giggle and squirm.
“Do you want to know what I realized or not?” You asked as you looked up at him.
“Yes. I would like to know what made the best girl ever go from heartbroken to on top of the world in five minutes,” Erik replied, looking down at you.
“You,” you stated, somehow being able to keep eye contact with him.
“What?” Erik asked and his brows furrowed.
“You. You made me happy because you were there for me at ungodly hours of the morning when I needed someone most. You’re always there for me and I’ve realized I’ve been looking for love in all the wrong places. I realized my Prince Charming has been next to me since I was six. I-I love you Erik,” you said quietly.
“Oh god I never thought this day would come,” Erik said, shock lacing his voice. “I’ve loved you since you threw that crayon at me in kindergarten.”
“That is the way to get all the boys, you know. Just hit them with art supplies,” you giggled and he laughed along with you. The sparkle in his eyes when he laughed was mesmerizing and you soon found yourself about to kiss him. When your lips met, it was like nothing you had ever felt before. Warmth spread through your entire body and you didn’t realize a kiss could be so exhilarating. After awhile, you broke apart and Erik touched his forehead to yours.
“Ich liebe dich,” Erik whispered as he gazed into your eyes.
“I love you, too,” you replied and held his hand.
“Babe,” Erik said with concern in his eyes.
“Yes?” You asked, confused.
“My leg is asleep,” he replied with a slight laugh and you giggled. You climbed off his lap and he lay down, opening his arms for you. You lay down in his arms and he turned on the television.
“Are you busy tomorrow?” Erik asked after a few minutes.
“I don’t think so, why?” You asked, turning to face him.
“Want to go get dinner and then egg that douche bag’s house?” He asked, smirking.
You grinned at him, “Hell yeah!”
