We zijn gegaan van You will learn respect, and suffering will be your teacher naar compassion is a weakness. Bro. Dat was het punt niet: Zuko spoke out of turn, which humiliated Ozai's ego, and in return ozai wanted to punish and humiliate his son back. And the POOOINT is that our sweet baby zuko refused to fight his father. He kneeled down and was crying; he didn't actually engage in the fight. and even if he had, WHY WOULD YOU THINK that he'd EVER be in a position to look like he's winning??? The show makes it very clear that zuko isn't a firebending prodigy like his sister and that ozai really looks down on him for it. Even to "test" zuko, ozai would never allow it to seem like his 13 yo son bested him at a duel. Are you insane? What the fuck. The scene exists to show Ozai's cruelty, and the burning and banishment isn't something "for zuko's own good in the end" or something ozai is conflicted about. bro saw an opportunity to get rid of his failure of a son and took it. ALSO we're not supposed to see ozai's face yet! that's a big thiiiiiiing stop it i'm mad.

    3) Azula is te vroeg geïntroduceerd

    4) meer dingen die ik atm niet direct kan herinneren want i'm not about to do a rewatch. no. hate hate loathe.

Dan, admittedly: in seizoen 2 zien we tot nu toe best coole stukjes van watersturen etc. Credit where credit is due; it looks cool. Het probleem met de zeeslang van de serpent's pass is op een vreemde manier geïntegreerd en het is jammer, maar okay.

BUT THEY FUCKED WITH THE PERFECTION OF 'ZUKO ALONE'?! wat? wie wat waarom why in the everloving fuck would you do that??? I mean, it's in there--i'd be organising a riot if it wasn't--but they're doing everything wrong?

Where is my environmental storytelling about the area zuko travelled through?

Why does he steal thes supplies from the pregnant couple, when it's a vital story beat that he is tempted but doesn't? We're supposed to learn that zuko, at his core, is a compassionate person. that's like, what the episode is about. so tell me why WHY he suddenly does take it now????

i am fuuuuuming, and i will keep you posted with my thoughts because everyone really wants and needs that rn

yay... there is my quenchiest line..

it would have been so much more fun for this to happen at the party, where it was important to be coolcalmcollected. toph and katara having to wrestle sokka away from the juice and deal with him in that state while trying to remain their reputations and stay and polite. the potential really was the ignored elephant in the writers room huh

also, sokka casually steals a goblet from the palace.

listen, i love the original painted lady episode. but it belongs in book 3, where katara sees that the normal people of the firenation too are, people, and struggeling. and she has compassion for them and goes to help them. this doesn't really do anything for her character arc.

the only silver lining is the parallel between her doing good for the sick and poor and zuko doing the same as the blue spirit, and the obvious zutara undertones.

again with the sandbending that cannonically was established as a weakness?

Het roddelblad in mij zit gelijk te roepen, 'Girl, spill the teaaaa!' - Maxime

toph can't see, but she can see earth, dipshits. so a rock thrown in the air wouldn't be invisible to her and wouldn't hit her on the head. you established this in the earth rumble, so why pretend like aang would be able to surprise her like that??

    fake wig looks fake, iroh

no. nooo no no. don't you dare, netflix. don't you dare.

jezus christ you came close. zuko was livid with iroh for heating up his old tea through bending, and now we see him actually considering doing it himself? have none of yall watched the original cartoon??

there's a firenation district in ba sing se? really? 🙄

[edit: and, by the way, they're there on asylum. to be free from ozai's reign. but there is no war according to ba sing se so why would they invite a whole group of people in who know otherwise? why would they be friendly towards any firenation person and grant them access to the city? this is fucking ba sing se, they wouldn't trust anything firenation related as far as they could throw it! Why are these people here! It makes no sense!]

also, the alliance between zuko and jet doesn't really make sense to me. zuko said no the first time, but came anyway. but when jet wanted to leave, he stuck around to help longshot and smellerbee steal more food for the other people too. so by all accounts, jet should group him in with the friends he's leaving behind, not saying he and zuko think alike.

I do love jet saying to zuko that it'll be fun to go "talk" to the firenation district people, and start some looting and somewhat of a riot. like, that's really shitty, dude. but there are people who are actually like that.

seeing iroh severly regret and be ashamed of his actions as former firenation commander is actually really nice.

not long feng actually telling the truth and being an ally. cannon!LongFeng would be disgusted.

    THE CABBAGE MERCHANT WHOOOO *O*

not jet strolling through ba sing se so heavily armed that his swords stick out half a metre above his head

not sokka trying to hide from toph by going to stand behind a cart

Het roddelblad in mij zit gelijk te roepen, 'Girl, spill the teaaaa!' - Maxime

not sokka casually brushing off the fact that tophs parents are selling weapons to the fire nation. are we to believe this is the same sokka who went berserk when he found out his new engineerbuddy at the airtemple worked for the fire nation? dudes.
