Netflix Live-Action: ATLA (S2) - Films en series

Hellooo, ik dacht, ik open even een topic want ik heb meningen over deze remake en ben benieuwd of nog meer mensen hier zo over denken. Spoilers ahead, dus lezen op eigen risico

Luister, seizoen 1 vond ik al niet per se "goed". Er kan—terecht—gesteld worden dat deze remake beter is dan de film van Night M Shamalamadingdong, maar de lat was zo'n beetje een struikelgevaar in de hel dus heel moeilijk is dat niet. Ondanks duidelijke verbeteringen, heeft de serie ook echt zijn problemen. Hieronder een paar, maar vul gerust aan.'

1) Sokka's persoonlijke groei die hij hoort door te maken, beginnend met de ontmoeting van Suki, valt eigenlijk vanaf het begin al compleet in het water. Hij hoort een flater bij haar te slaan met arrogante men-know-best shit, om daarna haar en vrouwen in het algemeen te leren respecteren. In plaats daarvan krijgen we een soort van insta-love en blijft sokka precies hetzelfde.

2) De Agni Kai tussen Ozai en Zuko is "mEeR nUaNcEd" maar ze hebben verkeerde nuance toegevoegd. We zijn gegaan van You will learn respect, and suffering will be your teacher naar compassion is a weakness. Bro. Dat was het punt niet: Zuko spoke out of turn, which humiliated Ozai's ego, and in return ozai wanted to punish and humiliate his son back. And the POOOINT is that our sweet baby zuko refused to fight his father. He kneeled down and was crying; he didn't actually engage in the fight. and even if he had, WHY WOULD YOU THINK that he'd EVER be in a position to look like he's winning??? The show makes it very clear that zuko isn't a firebending prodigy like his sister and that ozai really looks down on him for it. Even to "test" zuko, ozai would never allow it to seem like his 13 yo son bested him at a duel. Are you insane? What the fuck. The scene exists to show Ozai's cruelty, and the burning and banishment isn't something "for zuko's own good in the end" or something ozai is conflicted about. bro saw an opportunity to get rid of his failure of a son and took it. ALSO we're not supposed to see ozai's face yet! that's a big thiiiiiiing stop it i'm mad.

3) Azula is te vroeg geïntroduceerd

4) meer dingen die ik atm niet direct kan herinneren want i'm not about to do a rewatch. no. hate hate loathe.

Dan, admittedly: in seizoen 2 zien we tot nu toe best coole stukjes van watersturen etc. Credit where credit is due; it looks cool. Het probleem met de zeeslang van de serpent's pass is op een vreemde manier geïntegreerd en het is jammer, maar okay.

BUT THEY FUCKED WITH THE PERFECTION OF 'ZUKO ALONE'?! wat? wie wat waarom why in the everloving fuck would you do that??? I mean, it's in there--i'd be organising a riot if it wasn't--but they're doing everything wrong?

Where is my environmental storytelling about the area zuko travelled through?

Why does he steal thes supplies from the pregnant couple, when it's a vital story beat that he is tempted but doesn't? We're supposed to learn that zuko, at his core, is a compassionate person. that's like, what the episode is about. so tell me why WHY he suddenly does take it now????

why are we openly talking about the war at the party? ba sing se's whole thing is that there is no war in ba sing se and they will go to great, great lengths to make sure everybody keeps thinking so. Aang talking about it in public and being allowed to continue to challenge this idea in public is such a plot hole.

I don't care that "what has 'out there' to do with us" is your idea now, ba sing se means t h e r e is no war. don't acknowledge that it is going on outside? out loud? in public?

HAHAHAHHA cactus juice as wine actually is funny and i for one cannot wait for sokka to absolutely lose his mind in this high stakes environment. okay, netflix, this is a really fun way to make a nod to an episode that is so iconic but didn't make it into your edit. (though if it functions as regular alcohol and we do not get the quenchiest line, i take most of this back)

soooooo zuko said no to going on the food-heist with jet, and then we cut to him being there without any explanation? it wasn't played as "a character says they won't do something just for them to be doing that exact thing in the next scene", he was serious about needing to keep his head down. so why is he now here? you established this, netflix. so why are you not even taking your own story beats into account?

Wat ik wel mooi vind van het feest in het paleis is de aandacht die besteed wordt de overdadige rijkdom en onverschilligheid van iedereen. Zou nog beter geweest zijn als ze accuraat hadden benadrukt hoe benadeeld de mensen in de lower ring zijn,

What i do like about the party is the attention netflix pays to the obnoxious wealth and how the nobility completely disregards and looks down on people below their standing. Katara knows about a family in need of a certain medicinal flower, and here at the party, that rare flower is used as decoration and decoration only. She mentions it to a noble woman, and she responds with "i just like how they smell". And i really like that they put that in. The Hunger Games tackles this subject as well, with a prime example being the party in Catching Fire where Peeta is presented with a special drink for when he's full. The drink will make him puke so his stomach is empty again and he can go on eating; all the while the people in the districts regularly starve.
Especially with Elon Musk now having qualified for being the first trillionaire (it gives me a lot of joy he's not anymore), i think it's an important commentary to make. These people are rich beyond belief, could do so much good with no harm to themselves, and they don't and don't care.

people, where is my toph and katara beef? it's there, but actually not. Toph calls katara "sugar queen" in The Chase, and Katara gets so affronted about it. sUGER QUEEN?!?!?! here it's mentioned here and there and katara barely reacts to it and calls toph her friend. like, sure, yay, but no?

I'm sorry Netflix, have you mét Katara and Toph? First off, Toph would never admit that she's been kinda mean to katara as though it's a bad thing and girlboss katara would nEVER lie down and take it and say that toph just calls it as she sees it. They bicker over this in the cartoon endlessly and here it's just swept under the rug?? they made katara such a wet towel and toph a sad, pale version of herself

except he didn't, folded like a leaf, and only "held his ground" when she'd driven him into a corner and he got mad. He didn't learn anything, all he did was get mad. In the cartoon, he DOES hold his ground against a very big angry momma moose-thing to protect sokka. he decides to stay where he is, bury his feet in the ground and face the moose head on. that's how he unlocks earthbending. not because he's mad someone called him a mean name. my LORD

what is this therapy session with Long Feng? Tbh, i'm pretty sure they gave his character and story to the woman we met earlier, but why? It's fine if you want to make the commander of the dai li a strong cool ass woman, but why keep long fengs name but change everything about him? that misses the point of why it'd be fun to hear his name.

When did katara have time to take off her party make up
when did she have time to put on painted lady make up
where did she even find painted lady memorabilia to know how to do the makeup
how did she get to the lower ring
how did she get to the lower ring without being spotted
how did she get to the lower ring without being missed at the party
how the fuck does she get back?
