Zephyr, misschien heb je hier iets aan. Heb laatst een Engels boekverslag over het eerste deel gedaan en heb daar de betekenis van een aantal termen in verwerkt, wel in het Engels:
Shadowhunters' dictionary
• Parabatai is a pair of Nephilim warriors who fight together as lifelong partners, bound together by oath, regardless of their gender. Their bond is not reflected only in their closeness and willingness to lay down their lives for one another, but also in oath—one sworn in front of the Council.
• The Council is the governing body of the Clave. They write the laws, known as the Covenant, to which Shadowhunters and Downworlders must abide. The Council also signs the Accords and dictates decisions for all Shadowhunters and Downworlders.
• The Clave is the collective name for the political body made up of all active Shadowhunters. The Clave keeps and interprets the Law, and makes decisions about the guidance of the Nephilim through history as it unfolds and decides on important matters that affect the Nephilim.
• Downworlders are supernatural beings and hybrid creatures who inhabit the Shadow World. Downworlder is the widely used term to refer to beings that are said to be part human and part demon, and are even said to be the demonic counterpart of Shadowhunters, who are part human and part angel. They include werewolves, vampires, warlocks and faeries.
• Shadowhunters, also known as Nephilim, are a secretive race of beings who are humans born with angelic blood. They are the appointed warriors on Earth of the Angel Raziel. They are appointed specifically to control and preside over the Shadow World, as well as over the demons and Downworlders who inhabit it. They have fought the demonic forces valiantly for well over the span of a thousand years, creating their own culture and civilization within human society. Their mandate is to keep the peace in the Shadow World and keep it hidden from the mundane world while protecting the inhabitants of both worlds.
• Shadow World is the term generally used to refer to the hidden, supernatural part of the world that Shadowhunters, Downworlders and demons share. Beings born with the Sight naturally see past the glamours shielding the world from the mundane world. While the creatures and humans on the Shadow World are born with the Sight and see the Shadow World with ease, albeit needing a bit of training, mundanes are rarely born with the Sight, making most of them ignorant of and almost entirely separate from the world they technically share.
• The Sight is the ability to see past glamour to a thing's true nature
• A glamour is the simplest magic in existence, and is the most widely and extensively used magic because of its necessity: It hides the Shadow World from mundanes, a goal that all of that world agrees upon.
• Mundanes, also called mundies by some, are regular humans who are oblivious to the existence of Shadowhunters, Downworlders, demons, and the rest of the Shadow World.
• The Circle of Raziel, commonly known as the Circle, was a group of Shadowhunters led by Valentine Morgenstern who rebelled against the Clave and set out to "purify" the world for humans.
• The Accords are peace negotiations signed between the Downworlders and the Clave. The Accords act as amendments to the Covenant agreed to be taken as the law of the land by all of the Shadow World. The Accords are revised signed every fifteen years by representatives of the Nephilim and all Downworlder groups, in the Accords Hall in Alicante.
