Marouane Chamakh calls for Yoann Gourcuff to replace Cesc Fabregas
Marouane Chamakh has urged Arsene Wenger to bring in his old Bordeaux buddy Yoann Gourcuff to replace Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal.
The Moroccan international branded the Gunners inability to find replacements for wantaway duo Samir Nasri and captain Fabregas as ‘a bit embarrassing’ during a recent interview for L’Equipe TV.
When asked if he thought Lyon’s playmaker Gourcuff could be the answer for Arsenal, Chamakh replied: ‘If I could recommend a player to him (Wenger) it'd be Yoann, yes.
‘But it's up to the boss to decide if he wants him or not.’
The pair formed a formidable partnership during their time at Bordeaux, helping the club to a French league and cup double in 2009.
Both players left Les Girondins in 2010 and Gourcuff moved to Ligue 1 rivals Lyon for £20million.
Since then the 25-year-old has struggled for form, and has recently undergone ankle surgery that will keep him sidelined until at least September, which means it’s extremely unlikely Arsenal would be interested.
Wenger though, remains a fan, and may be tempted to launch a bid in January should Gourcuff be able prove his fitness.
