STORYLINE

Elke 25 jaar wordt op de Wizarding Universiteit van Japan de Taeguk Trials gehouden. Hoe studenten voor dit toernooi worden geselecteerd, is een mysterie. Eén ding staat echter vast: wie eenmaal geselecteerd is, ontkomt er niet meer aan. Pogingen om deelname te vermijden eindigen in een magische seppuku en reputatieverlies voor de familie.

Het winnen van dit toernooi is een van de hoogste eerbewijzen binnen de Eastern Wizarding World. Hoewel elk toernooi slachtoffers maakt onder de deelnemers, zijn er nog steeds ouders die grote sommen geld betalen om ervoor te zorgen dat hun kind geselecteerd wordt. Sommigen gaan zelfs zover dat ze betalen om te zorgen dat een ander kind wordt gekozen. Een riskante zet, want de winnaar krijgt een wens naar keuze— een wens waarin bijna alles mogelijk is. Of het nu gaat om een prestigieuze stage bij de Minister of Magic, exclusieve familiehandel op de markt, of het uitschakelen van een academische rivaal die nooit meer in aanmerking komt voor een ministeriepost: de prijs is het risico voor velen waard.

Op de achtergrond spelen de ontwikkelingen van de magische wereld. De wereld is voortdurend in verandering, en de Eastern Wizarding World heeft al geruime tijd het Westen nauwlettend gevolgd. Zowel de veranderingen in de magische wereld als in de mugglewereld wekken hun ongenoegen en zorgen. Dit heeft uiteindelijk geleid tot een ingrijpend besluit: afstand nemen van de Westerse wereld. Als eerste stap zal de prestigieuze universiteit haar deuren sluiten voor muggleborns en Westerse studenten. Het komende studiejaar zal het laatste zijn waarin zij nog worden toegelaten.

𝑹𝒚𝒖𝒋𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒆

Het Ryujin Sorcery Institute is een elite wizarding university in Japan. Kinderen van invloedrijke families vinden hun weg hiernaartoe na hun studie thuis of aan Mahoutokoro. Naast de invloed van familie, kan een student ook toegelaten worden wanneer zij op Mahoutokoro uitmuntende cijfers behaalden. De laatste optie is sponsoring. Iemand anders, vaak een bedrijf, betaalt dan je studie. In ruil daarvoor werk je daarna een groot deel van je leven bij het bedrijf.
Ryujin ontvangt studenten vanuit heel Azië, al komen de meesten uit China, Singapore, Korea en Japan.

Myuzy-ji was born into a life of quiet privilege, the only child of an ambitious mother and a father she barely remembers. Her mother, the formidable and elegant owner of a skincare and beauty empire, was a constant presence in high society but often an elusive one at home. Her father, warm and full of life, passed away when she was still too young to truly grasp the weight of loss. What remained of him were the stories her mother seldom told, the old photographs in a drawer she wasn’t supposed to open.

As a child, Myuzy-ji was an explosion of energy and emotion, always seeking warmth, connection, and love. She had an endless supply of affection to give, showering friends, pets, and even strangers with kindness. She was the type of child to run up and hug people she barely knew, to make friendship bracelets for classmates she had just met, and to cry when characters in her storybooks suffered. Her mother often worried about how easily Myuzy-ji gave her heart away, warning her that the world wasn’t as kind as she was. But Myuzy-ji never listened—she was far too hopeful, too romantic, too enamored with the idea that love, in all its forms, was meant to be shared freely.

Home-schooled within the walls of their ancestral estate, she learned magic from private tutors, surrounded by ancient scrolls, cursed relics, and stories of wars fought in the shadows of the magical world. Her father and brothers never treated her as fragile. She was raised with the same expectations, the same lessons in power and precision. While her brothers trained in spellcraft and strategy, she was there, watching, learning, sharpening her mind alongside her magic. She understood influence before she understood long division, mastered the weight of a name before she even set foot outside their estate.

it didn’t take long for her to find the cracks in the system—the things people wanted but couldn’t have, the little luxuries and secrets that even magic couldn’t always provide. So, quietly, subtly, she started dealing. Nothing big. Just small trades—limited-edition enchanted accessories, rare imported potion ingredients, old books with spells long forgotten. Things that weren’t exactly illegal, just… difficult to come by.

She never let it grow too large, never let it draw attention. It was a game, a way to keep herself entertained in a world that sometimes felt too structured, too predictable. If anyone ever caught on, they’d assume it was nothing more than a spoiled rich girl indulging in exclusivity. And that was exactly how she wanted it.
