LEVEN

Het is negen januari, negen minuten over negen in de morgen. Het is koud, extreem koud, maar op blote voeten sluipt er een meisje door de Drentse bossen. Het is negen januari, 2015, en in Nederland is het oorlog.
Fenna is een doorzetter, maar ze ziet haar toekomst verdwijnen. Wanhopig is ze op zoek, een zoektocht naar leven.

'Wie ben jij?' vraagt het meisje, terwijl ze me nieuwsgierig aankijkt. Haar krullend blonde haren dansen over haar schouders terwijl ze naar me lacht. Met haar handen wriemelt ze aan de glinsterende franjes die aan haar roze jurkje zaten. Ik had een brok in mijn keel. Ik wilde hem wegslikken maar het lukte niet. 'Niet praten, Fenna,' hoorde ik de krakende stem van Cobus via mijn headset in mijn oor fluisteren, 'doe heel rustig een stap naar achter.' Ik knikte, al wist ik dat hij het niet zag. Zou hij het merken als ik... Ik keek in de diep blauwe ogen van het meisje, die me langzaam naar haar toe trokken.

Raja is met haar ouders en broer op vakantie in het oude Athene. De symboliek van de stad is magisch, de zon schijnt, de inwoners van de stad lachen haar toe. Maar door het noodlot beland Raja in een café in de haven Piraeus. Dit café zorgt er niet alleen voor dat haar vakantie veranderd, het verandert haar leven, en dat van de mensen om haar heen.
De tijd leert, en naar een paar maanden onderzoek zijn de vragen van de wetenschappers beantwoord. Zij zijn tevreden. De enige die achterblijf is Raja. Precies twaalf jaar later keert ze terug naar de haven, om haar reis nog een keer te maken. Zal ze antwoord vinden? Zal ze hem vinden?
