Indeed it is. I warned that artist a while ago that he had no right to take my work, redraw it, which he did in a Preston-Blair, 1940's style, add old-fashioned sepia-tone to the "paper," and denigrate it by terming it "old fashioned." He quickly removed the images - or I thought he had - before I took any further action. He explained that he was a big fan of my work. He had an odd way of showing it.
My opinion is that guys like this try to bolster their self-esteem by manipulating and defaming the images of others, but without actually earning the credits necessary to get build a significant professional reputation. And thus far, the most noticeable credit he has acquired is that of "plagiarist."
He's what I call a "Comic Convention Artist." He does have good drawing skills, but he lacks the discipline necessary to capitalize on his talent, which requires one to have an editorial eye: All of his characters are so heavily and self-consciously stylized and overworked, that no one can learn from them, few companies would license them, and only a sliver of the market would be willing to wade through an entire book of them. There is almost no economy of line apparent in his work. Every nuance is extensively worked out equally, so that the drawings lack pacing.
If his is style is the look of modern cartoons, why then, haven't I seen it on animated TV shows and movies films?
Thanks you for bringing this to my attention. I always appreciate it - I really do - when readers look out for me.
Where did this appear?
Heel erg bedankt. (bloos)
