Fernando Torres has warned Cesc Fabregas of the potential downside if he decides to leave Arsenal and join Barcelona but advised the Gunners captain to pursue what is best for his career.

The former Liverpool forward believes he is in a position to dish out advice on the midfielder’s probable transfer to the Catalan club, having made a controversial move from Liverpool to Chelsea in the winter transfer window.

The Stamford Bridge striker has seen his stock fall on Merseyside, going from an icon to outcast in a short period of time, and the Spaniard believes Fabregas may have to brace himself for a backlash if he leaves this summer.

“Everyone has their own story but from what I’ve read Cesc is grateful to [Arsene] Wenger and Arsenal,” Torres said, according to the Daily Mail.

“But if you leave, you have to get wet. In the end, when you leave, you’re alone. Football is very hypocritical in this regard.”

The former Atletico Madrid man insists that being a fan favourite is not necessarily a reason to stop chasing a dream of achieving bigger and better things.

“You have to give yourself the chance to make the step,” said Torres. “If you are lucky, then your club will help you, this is what happened at Atletico Madrid [when I left for Liverpool]. I knew people at Atletico and had good personal relations. But at Liverpool there were problems.

“Javier Mascherano did many good things for Liverpool but they did not treat him well when he left.

“It is a complicated situation when you leave a club but footballers always want to move forward, chase what he believes is better, because we only have eight or 10 good years.”

Want weetje dat Barcelona binnenkort naar Nederland komt om tegen PSV te spelen, voor Ibrahim de transfer dt hij een keer tegen zijn oude club mag spelen haha
