Currently studying
Charlie's currently studying science, especially the subjects derived from chemistry, physics and biology. She's focussing on getting into quantum mechanics, quantum physics and studies concerning astronomy. Quantum mechanics had always fascinated the gifted Charlie, but never really did anything with it. When it became a reason of revenge for Charlie, it seemed the only choosable option, really.
Age + date of birth
19 (and a half) Year old, born on the 24th of October - Scorpio.
She likes to pretend she's much older, even though she's not all that fond of growing up.
Nationality
Charlie was born and raised in Sydney, Australia.
Appearance
Charlie has dark blond hair, which forms a quite eccentric colour. It's very bright and people often ask if she's dyed it. This is not the case however, and the same goes for the darker plucks in her hair.
She's got bright eyes in different shades of green and blue, which people often comment on. Charlie's never had a great self-image and denies these peculiarities, but they're undeniably true anyway. Charlie's also very tall (1,79), which many often find intimidating. This is not something she corrects people on, as she likes the sense of dominance.
Furthermore, she's quite thin and has a lot of muscle, also because she trains a lot and had problems with her weight in the past.
Her clothes are often provocative enough to notice, yet unprovocative enough to hold it against her too much. A lot of different styles mixed together, one might say. Sometimes she takes this a bit too far, as she bursts out in ridiculous outfits more than sporadically. Charlie often tries to wear hats in class, but gets called out on it even more. However, her rebellious nature urges her to try anyway. In the case that she does try, she's often seen wearing a baseball hat, a tight one or even a deerstalker she got from her brother.
Last, but not least, Charlie has a tattoo on her upper arm, ankle, neck and another on her hip. A lion with a star-filled sky and on her hip a pathway and a map. The ankle is a big tree and she will always gladly comment how much it hurt to get, when people compliment on it. In her neck is a secret one, a cat footprint. It shows her love for animals.
Character
Charlie is a very bright woman, with a very wide variety of character traits. I'll name four major positive and three negative ones and elaborate in the story beneath. There, I will also shine light on some other personality traits. This - highly probable - contain references to her past, which is found under 'Family and background'.
Positive
- Sweet and helpful
- Humorous
- Valiant, not afraid to go against the stream.
- Almost never self-pities.
Negative
- Too cynical in lots of ways.
- So honest it becomes straight out rude
- Mean, angry all the time.
- Very closed when sad/angry/every negative emotion possible.
Charlie is, as said above, very great in her personality. She has a lot of depth, which adorns her, yet, not always.
First of all, she has a lot of humor, something found often in people who've known great pain. The jokes she makes are almost always funny/ When they aren't, it's mostly because they can be very mean. This is not always with the intent to hurt people, if it is, she will make her hostility with this person clearly.
When hurting someone was never her intent, Charlie will have problems with recognizing her wrongdoing and will be reluctant in apologizing. Even when proved to be rude, Charlie doesn't like to apologize and will avoid doing so. She's got this irrevocable feeling of pride, which prevents her in apologizing or giving in in discussions. This doesn't go for children; Charlie is great with children and she loves them dearly.
Back to the list. Charlie is extremely sweet and helpful. A newcomer is safe in the responsibility of Charlie, whose sense of responsibility is very big. It might be hard to believe, considering the rebellious phase she's had, but Charlie is a very great leader. Maybe it's because of growing up with her brother and sister, which she had to look after for a prolonged period of time. Charlie is patient, sweet and caring. A person with a secret can find great trust in the honorable Charlie. Furthermore, she's not afraid to be herself. She's authentic, really. When she was younger Charlie had multiple phases (gothic, punk, rock) and through that learned to accept herself. The twisted form of eating disorder (more information under 'Extra' and Family and background) she suffered from, has also left it's mark. Her self-image is simply the worst, both mentally and physically, though it gets better the older she gets.
Anyway, she's not afraid to be different. Somehow, this thought comforts her: 'I've always been different. I'll always be different. There's no use in trying to change that anyway.' She realized this when she was 14 years old (mature for her age) and never let it go. It was an ultimate act of self-acceptation and a turning point considering the relationships she had with her family.
What also adorns Charlie, is her withhold to sink into self-pity. Of course there's nothing bad about it, but Charlie goes into extremes considering emotions. An extreme self-pity would quickly conform into 'not getting out of bad, because the world has treated me oh so unfairly.' This, she's never done, even with the horrible time she's had with her family.
Further continuing with her bad traits; Charlie is cynical. Very often, she's an optimist, but with this nihilistic touch that doesn't approve her attitude. It has been said that cynicism kills the spirit and with Charlie this is true. It renders her very lazy and angry with the world. It happens more often than should, unfortunately. It's not healthy for a relatively 'mentally unstable' person like Charlie to have this sarcastic view about everything. If anything, it distorts her view of the world. It can also be very annoying for someone to deal with the nasty attitude Charlie can have, more than once.
Also, Charlie has learned herself to be extremely honest. When confronted with someone who was very honest, Charlie found herself admiring this person more than people who tell little lies for the greater good. Eventually she figured this is how she should be herself as well and became her own idol in this manner. However, there are no brakes on her honesty anymore and it hurts people quite often. Never expect Charlie to say 'yes' to a dress that makes you look fat. When disliking you, Charlie will simply state that she doesn't like you for this-and-that reason. The positivity out of this, is that Charlie befriends only those who can appreciate her true self. The negative side is that she doesn't have too many friends. Many times, when Charlie is incredibly honest and hurts someone, again, she won't notice it too quickly. Only when confronted with a very literal version of naming the problem, will Charlie know the issue. She feels surprised a lot, that other 'ordinary' people don't appreciate the honesty in the way that she does.
Charlie is also very angry, all of the time. As though the world mistreated her and she must get revenge. It's like the issue with her parents, carried on too far. People have always done wrong in her eyes, the world has always been wrong.
Even though Charlie is very sweet at first, she's also very distrustful. One doesn't quickly get to know the real Charlie, and she's very keen to point that out when someone claims to know her. Charlie's annoyed when people give her the impression that they know everything - especially when they're talking about her - Even when she comes across a know-it-all and a bossy fellow herself more than once.
Another good trait is Charlie's modesty. She doesn't ask much for the work she does and this includes recognition. Sometimes, this isn't very nice, however, as it means that a lot of times, as supervisors may not realize how strong/eager/spontaneous she is.
She is spontaneous and impulsive. Sometimes a bit too impulsive, but it gets her into adventure, which she loves. Of course, she has a great urge for adventure. People often mistake her impulsivity for naivety (which she absolutely isn't, especially after her past), as her impulsive actions get her into the most ridiculous of situations, but it's just her nature.
Something she'd never admit, is the fact that Charlie seeks acceptation. Of course, she pretends to be a happy einzelgänger and completely unbound by the expectations of her parents, but it isn't quite true. Every month, Charlie sends a report card home - straight A+'s again, of course. Never has she received a reply.
Remember; Charlie's first response will be a snarky, sarcastic comment. Underneath this layer (how cliche it might sound), is a sweet girl that urges to find acceptance.
Family and background
Charlie's family relationships are beyond complicated - almost as complicated as her childhood an sich. Firstly, an outline of her direct family. Charlie has a lot of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, but they are beyond possibility of elaboration. The numbers in which they come are simply too high, yet Charlie knows every single one of them.
Ranked at age:
Mother - Marghareta 'Maggie' Zara Smith-Joneson - 48
Father - Thompson Teller Joneson - 46
Older brother (cut away from the family, has taken his wife's last name) - Hunter Thompson Arring - 24
Charlotte 'Charlie' Qais Teller Joneson - 19
Younger brother - Peyton Joschua - 16
Younger sister - Imogen Zara Joneson - 13
Charlie was born as 'Charlotte' and the second child of Maggie and Thompson Joneson. As second child, yet late child (Hunter was already 6 when she was born and he received very little attention), she got a moderate amount of attention - at least, when she had the ages of zero to three.
Both Hunter and Charlie were cross children when they were younger. They were both quite active and only reluctantly agreed to sit still and listen for a while. They both had trouble concentrating on anything, although Hunter got more eager to learn as he got older. Charlie, however, remained a wild child and if she would ever be confronted with a psychologist, she would immediately receive both the labels 'ADHD' as 'ADD'. No one was ever patient enough to take her to a therapist though, and so the diagnosis was never made.
Maggie and Thompson wanted to be the perfect example of a perfect family. The birth of two little troublemakers seemed to mar this expectation and the atmosphere was tense. When Hunter got six, he bowed for the expectations of his family. Suddenly, he became calmer and more subdued, focused on studying. Charlie could never get domesticated and kept the pace going. It always seemed to wrench, especially when Peyton and Imogen were born. The two were little angels and exactly what her parents expected a child to be. When they were born, Charlie's parents seemed very fixated on getting them to be the exact opposite of Charlie and Hunter. They always urged Charlie to give a better example, but it never worked.
Imogen and Peyton got incredibly spoiled, but remained unaware of this. Peyton seemed to realize this when he got thirteen and now, on her thirteenth, Imogen also seems to apprehend her treatment. Although she needs special treatment; Imogen has a severe form of coeliac disease. Her restricted eating pattern has rendered her very petite and small for her age. To prevent other children from bullying her because of her body type, Maggie and Thompson decided to let her repeat two classes in elementary school. Despite her being smart in an intellectual way. Mentally, she's old in the way of comprehending the world and people around her, yet very young in naivety and trust.
Anyway, as everyone grew older, Maggie and Thompson - unrecognized unhappy with their marriage - worked more to prevent being home. Both have had one affair, yet they decided to talk it out as a couple. They're still together and claim to be a perfect family.
Hunter got into studying more and more, but couldn't handle the pressure multiple times. Even though he got high grades at the highest level of school, he had to work his little butt off to get there. The parents were barely helpful, as they focused on the 'happy two' and secretly (never admitted it out loud) didn't like Hunter as much as the youngest two. When he was 20 year old, he got let into Harvard, but broke down after two months. When he was 21, he broke all bonds with his parents and moved out. At 24, he married a lovely girl called Annie, which Charlie met once. Charlie and Hunter have sporadic contact, as Hunter still lives in Sydney. Charlie was the only one of his direct family who attented the wedding.
After Hunter moved out, Charlie felt even more alone and became more rebellious. Even she saw how her parents started to neglect homelife more and more, but had no place to point this out to them. She had no status with her parents, as they disliked her anyway. Even with the circumstances being as they were, Charlie could surprisingly get along well with her younger brother and sister. She'd often picked them up from school and played games with them - think of twice to three times a week. Her parents quickly discouraged this when they found out, but it'd been a year already and some things can't be broken easily. It was then, that Peyton started to find out about this crooked family dynamic. Both tacitly agreed that this was of no importance to the young Imogen when Peyton got more mature.
At the age of sixteen, Charlie got in a relationship with a guy named Sammuel-Luka. It's not something Charlie likes to talk about. She was in a very rebellious phase and dressed extremely punk. This has nothing to do with not liking to talk about it though. It turned out to become a bit of an abusive relationship. Mentally and eventually, also physically. One time, he slapped her in the face, the second time he got her a black eye. That's when her friends interfered and eventually, she broke up with him. It cost her much back then, and it left a bigger mark on her than she would've liked. She's coping with this better and better now, but it took her a lot of time. She was very dependent on him and it was also one of the reasons she never wanted to rely on someone that much anymore. One time, her father hit her during a fight. It was after she broke up with the guy. She got extremely mad and got locked up in her room, because of the severe tantrum. It never occurred to her parents to treat her this way again. They never knew about the guy, even then, Charlie was very secretive.
The fights with her parents increased and Charlie was getting a 'fuck it all' attitude more and more, especially when her favourite grandmother (the only one who was sympathetic) died when she was 15. The rebellious and busy phase never really stopped, but this induced emotional abuse from her parents. They scolded and hurt her mentally a lot. She'd never admit it, but Charlie has a great inferiority complex, because of this. She even developed a strange form of eating disorder from the ages of 15 to 17. It's traceable to her parents' dissaproval, but she'd never admit it.
Even though Charlie was silly enough not to like school (or at least the educational part that came with it), she got high grades. If we're talking in labels, you could immediately tell her she's a highly gifted child. Without working, she got straight A+'s in a lot of subjects - something of which Hunter never was jealous, he was too noble for that. Where Charlie knows extreme envy, Hunter only knows happiness for the other lucky fellow.
When Charlie got older, more focused on living and future instead of mere survival, she discovered how great her love for the universe actually was; or still is. She'd always been intrigued, but she realized this was one of her passions. Her parents never knew of this and she hid it well. She'd always been in doubt to either go into the army or study astronomy, but her parents only knew of the army plans and expected some desolate form of the foreign legion.
One day, when Charlie was nearly graduating, her parents and she got in this gigantic fight about her future. Eventually, her parents just told her to figure it out on her own and retracted their hands even more. They weren't there for her anymore anyway, they were only apparent to complain about her lifestyle. Charlie's parents had complained that they didn't care anymore, only were there for her when she needed money. This may sound like a relief, but imagine your parents telling you that they didn't care about you anymore, only willing to pay money (the subtext being: 'we give you our money to keep you away'. To pester them and take revenge, Charlie picked quantum mechanics in an excellent school. They hadn't expected it at all and of course felt surprised in an disbelieving way. Charlie quickly went, leaving barely anything home. She doubted if she really wanted to go there anyway, the army seemed quite an attractive as well. But Charlie went.
To prove her parents wrong? Maybe.
But to mostly return the 'fuck you'.
Extra
• Charlie is bisexual
• The eating disorder mentioned earlier, meant that Charlie wanted to get thinner. She got a bit obsessed with eating healthy and sported a lot. This is something she kind of solved on her own, with some help from her friends, but it always remains in the back of her mind.
• She's also sporting a lot, still. This mostly has to do with her liking the movement, though. Charlie still can't sit still and sporting often helps her to compensate with the sitting calm in class.
• She mostly runs around the campus as a sport, outside of cheerleading.
