Hij is zo religieus als de pest.
Op zich is dat niet slecht, maar het moment dat je gehele politieke visie daar vanaf gaat hangen wordt het dat wel. Ook al beweert hij zelf dat dit niet het geval is. Maar het is gewoon overduidelijk dat zijn politieke visie sterk op geloofskwesties steunt. Hij wilde onder andere homohuwelijk afschaffen, abortus verboden maken en gaat zo ver als zeggen dat anticonceptie verboden moet worden door de staat of in ieder geval een stuk moeilijker bereikbaar moet worden gemaakt.. Hij zegt dat hij is voor gelijke rechten voor de LBGT community, maar tegelijk is hij wel tegen same sex marriage, tegen dezelfde mensen openbaar in het leger laten dienen.Hij heeft zich alleen bij dat laatste neergelegd, omdat hij het nu toch niet meer kan veranderen. Kan aan mij liggen, maar hoe zijn dat gelijke rechten?

In een land als Amerika, een vooraanstaand land in de 21e eeuw, kun je onmogelijk vasthouden aan zulke idealen en controversiële visies. Het reflecteert niet wat de 21e eeuw symboliseert, stuurt ons ruim een eeuw terug de tijd in. Het is, in mijn ogen, niet het type leider dat een land als Amerika behoort te hebben.
