As a child

As a child
I did not dream that I’d be scared
With all the lights on.
That the monsters under my bed
Would crawl their way into my head.

As a child
I thought I’d grow older and wiser
Not older and viler
I thought would have countless chances
Not countless scars carved in my heart.

As a child
I knew the moment would come
But I kept on waiting
And by now I’m saying
It has already gone.

As a child
Death would be a distant day
And it never ever occurred in my head
I would be the only way.
To silence the monsters from under my bed.
I never expected them to stay
Till I made it end.
