Magic in use
MAGIC

Magic on this Earth is a very intuitive thing, a kind of manipulation of nature that happens through a connection of the nervous system to natural processes all around. All humanoid creatures have the potential to do Magic, though some races and individuals are better at it than others. No race has a specific kind of Magic, though some races and individuals can be better at certain types of Magic. Anyone is capable of doing any Magic, as long as they have the strength and durability to make themselves a conduit to it. Celestials, for example, used to have a broad magical culture. Because of their lifespans, they gathered a lot of knowledge on Magic and excelled at it above all of the other races. Since the introduction of the Anti-Magic Law, that knowledge has gotten lost and the Celestials, just like all other races, have had their Magic clipped. Anthropes, though capable of Magic, have always had a shaky relationship with it. They think it is a volatile, dangerous thing that should be kept under rule, making it no surprise that they were the first ones ones who rebelled against its use when Eirian killed the King, 300 years ago. The Little Folk don't care much for Magic. They value the little things they find in communal life and what the Earth itself grants them. They do not wish to thwart nature's balance by upsetting it through Magic. Primordials, even though they live short lives, are the second most Magically adept race on this Earth. They value the wild Magic, and subjugate themselves to it rather than harnessing it. Elementalists have a similar philosophy. They wish for nature to run its course the way it wishes to, and promote ways for wild Magic to flow at its own pace. They let themselves be led by it, whether that is in the wisdoms of life, or in the literal path they walk as nomads. |

Clipping Magic is something that has been systematically done since the founding of the Anti-Magic Law in Adrana. It is done surgically, by attaching copper wire to the uppermost vertebrae of the spinal cord. Many people do not survive the procedure, and people that were born more Magically attuned, often grow mad. This information is not widely spread by Adrana's court. In the last century, new parents who have had the procedure done when they were younger, are allowed to deny having the procedure done on their newborns in exchange for their own lives should their children ever betray the Adranean Court by performing Magic. When a creature has inhuman features, those are often literally clipped as well. |
