Prologue.
There he was, that creepy guy with the scar above his right eye, the golden tooth and dressed in all black. He was staring at Zoë and her mom. She knew he was no good. His eyes where dark, not like just dark colored, but scary dark. Like he was planning something. Zoë got chills all over her body. She saw the man walking towards them. Her mom pushed Zoë behind her. “Stay behind me Zoë” her mom whispered. Zoë nodded slowly against her mom’s back. Her mom showed no signs of fear at all. Like she knew that if she did the man would notice. The man kept walking towards them with the creepiest walk Zoë had ever seen. Slow and without a sound almost like he was floating over the sidewalk.
“Good evening ladies” the man said, with a deep voice that gave Zoë the chills all over again.
“Good evening sir” her mom replied nicely and calm.
“ By any chance, do you have a lighter on you, miss?” the man asked, almost like a whisper.
“ No, I haven’t. I’m sorry, sir.”
“That’s okay, miss. Maybe you have something else I can use then.” With this words the man jumped towards her mom and grabbed her by her coat. Her mom shrieked as did Zoë. “I’ve always admired you, miss.” the man whispered. “The way you walk, the way you talk, just everything about you. You’re like an angel.” the man continued. Her mom whimpered softly. Zoë clutched herself on her mom’s leg. “Zoë run!” her mom said determined. But Zoë just couldn’t move she was too scared.
The man grabbed her mom more firmly and yanked her towards him. Zoë’s arms slipped off of her mom’s leg and she just stood there like concrete. “Zoë run!” her mom yelled again. “Run baby, run!”
“Yeah little girl run.” the man laughed at Zoë. Zoë heard her mom whimper softly again and that got her to move. But instead of running away from the man holding her mom she ran towards them. “Zoë! No! Go!” her mom yelled. “Zoë go get he..” her words vanished in the palm of the man’s hand. The man then walk backwards with Zoë’s mom and grabbed a knife out of his pocket holding it at her mom’s throat. “If you move one inch, your mom will be dead” he hissed through his teeth. Zoë stopped in her track and watched the man walk backwards slowly, with her mom in his arms. The man put the hand he silenced her mom with around her mom’s waist and yanked her with him into the dark. “Zoë” her mom whispered. “I love you, don’t you ever forget that.” Those where the last words Zoë ever heard her mom say.
