Chapter 1.9 (Claire)

After a couple of minutes, I managed to calm myself down again, but it took me a lot more effort to reach for the next letter. I wondered why someone I didn’t know, was able to create such an impact on how I felt, happiness or sadness, and that frightened me. But as soon as I picked up the next letter, I felt better.

My Claire –bear,
I just realized that I haven’t told you a lot about myself. You must be curious about me by now.
My name is Quil Ateara, I was seventeen years old when I met you, although I looked more like twenty-five then. Please don’t do the math on how old that would make me, because it won’t get you anywhere.
I have two best friends I can’t live without, Jacob and Embry. I’ve known them longer than I knew you, so that’s a long while, isn’t it?
Embry’s a bit of a womanizer, while Jacob used to be a martyr. He was in love with this girl, who was in love with someone else. But he turned out to fall for a different girl, pretty much the way I met you, but that’s a different story that I will tell you once you get here.
I was and probably am the geek of the bunch. I read all kinds of books, and got the best grades at school, until I had to drop out, which is another thing I will have to tell you about once you get here. Maybe we could finish high school together.
Well my love, read on, I’m sure we’ll be reunited soon.

I smiled after this letter, it was nice to know some more about Quil, to figure out what kind of person he was, and feeling how familiar he was becoming. I glanced at the picture of us together, and felt an oozing feeling take over me, a sort of natural glow. I wondered what it was.
