The Padlocked Chest
En verder moesten we er iets bij verzinnen.
Jammer genoeg hadden we een woorden limiet want dit had zoveel leuker kunnen zijn
Maargoed hier kwam ik mee!
I sneaked into the old abandoned house at the end of the street. I was surprised to find a small padlocked treasure chest on a dresser in an upstairs bedroom. There was a note that said, “Do not open, EVER!”
I also noticed a small key hanging on the wall. I tried the key in the padlock, it was a perfect fit.
I wanted to turn the key but hesitated. What if there was something creepy inside? Like a human body. That’d be disgusting, who knows how long this chest had been standing here, the body could have been reduced to a pile of bones.
Then again what if there was a treasure inside? Like gold or jewels, I’d be rich! Wouldn’t I have to turn my findings in at the police station though? Whether it was a body or gold it wasn’t mine to keep. Not that I wanted to keep a body, could you imagine it?
‘Hi mom! I’ve found a body, I’ll just go and hang it up in my room now.’
I sighed and released the key. ‘What do I do…?’ I mumbled to myself. What if it was a cruel joke? Maybe someone was videotaping me right now, laughing at me because I was hesitating. I looked around the room but saw nothing looking like a camera, everything was dusty and old.
I looked back at the chest. The key was still in the padlock, unturned. It was like the padlock was mocking me, “You don’t have the guts! Do you?”
‘You’ve got to be kidding me!’ I nearly screamed, now I was imagining a talking padlock!
I reached down, turned the key and swiftly opened the chest.
Carefully I looked inside but saw nothing, when I looked closer there was a note on the bottom.
There were just a few words written on it, ‘Could you close me again?’
