Chapter 10

As the Defence Against the Dark Arts class came to an end, students began gathering their belongings and preparing to leave. Victoria, like always, meticulously organised her notes and books. However, as she was about to exit, Professor Moody's voice cut through the shuffling of students.

"Miss Ollivander," Moody called out, his voice gruff but inviting. "Could you stay back for a moment? I'd like to have a word."

Victoria blinked in surprise but quickly regained her composure and nodded. She subtly gestured to her friends to go on without her, feeling a nervous wave wash over her as she put her things back down on the desk. The remaining students exited the room, leaving her alone with the formidable Auror.

Moody approached her desk, his magical eye examining her as he limped her way. "It has come to my attention that you are exceptionally skilled in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Miss Ollivander."

"Thank you, Professor," Victoria replied, a mix of relief and pride in her voice.

Moody leaned against the desk, his posture relaxed but attentive. "Tell me, have you given any thought to your future? You've got a talent for this subject. Any particular career path in mind?"

Victoria smiled softly as she weighed her words, before beginning to speak about her ambition. "I've been considering becoming a curse-breaker at Gringotts. The idea of travelling the world, unravelling ancient magical protections, and delving into hidden tombs fascinates me. It's just so intriguing to me! I love the idea of discovering lost knowledge and solving the mysteries behind it.”

Moody's mechanical eye seemed to gleam with interest. "A noble pursuit, that. But a challenging one, too. Curse Breaking requires more than just skill; it demands a deep understanding of magical traps and dark magic. If you're serious about it, you'll need to be prepared."

Victoria listened attentively, ready to absorb any advice her esteemed professor would give her.
Moody continued, his tone taking a more serious note. "You know, Miss Ollivander, given your pureblood lineage and the Ollivander name, the Wizarding world might have certain expectations for someone like you. Taking over the family wand shop or pursuing a position within the Ministry might be what they envision."

She felt her heart drop into the pit of her stomach. It seemed like she could not escape her heritage. The fact that even Professor Moody highlighted it made Victoria feel uneasy.
Moody sighed, a hint of bitterness in his tone. "I've had my share of disagreements with the Ministry. Sometimes it feels like they're more interested in maintaining appearances than dealing with the real threats. My father worked there, and I saw firsthand the compromises that had to be made."

Victoria couldn’t help but feel a sort of connection with professor Moody. He understood how it was to be the child of a hardworking ministry parent. He was able to pursue the job he wanted, which made Victoria eager to converse more.

Moody continued, "While curse-breaking is undoubtedly a demanding occupation, it's not one typically associated with great prestige. If you aim to fulfil the ambitious expectations inherent in your lineage, there may be other paths more suited to your aspirations. The fact that you're considering a different path speaks volumes about your curiosity and quest for individuality. Should you decide to pursue this path, I can offer guidance and training beyond the classroom. The dark arts are a treacherous terrain, and a skilled curse-breaker must be ready for anything."

Victoria's eyes widened in realisation as she recognised the chance she was given. "I would be incredibly honoured, Professor. Your guidance would mean the world to me."

Moody nodded, satisfied with her response. "Then we'll make a plan, Miss Ollivander. I'll help you reach your potential, and together, we'll prepare you for the challenges that lie ahead."

Victoria met his gaze with determination. "I'm not one to back down from a challenge, Professor."

Victoria couldn't help but notice the subtle change in proximity as Moody leaned in closer, his tone remained low as he whispered, "I had a feeling you might say that. How about we meet tomorrow night at my office to start your first lesson? There's much to learn, and I believe you have the potential to excel beyond even your own expectations."

She set a step back. “I appreciate that Professor, I will be there,” she said before she left the classroom and hurried to her next class.
