9. One Republic - Secrets

Percy knew it wouldn’t be easy. He couldn’t care less.
      They’d hidden for too long. It was ridiculous, really; he loved Oliver and Oliver loved him. It wasn’t exactly muggle rocket science, but all the secrets and lies they told everyone around them still made it terribly difficult. Worse, it made it seem as if they were ashamed of each other. Percy couldn’t speak for Oliver, Merlin knew he definitely wasn’t ashamed of his handsome, star Quidditch player boyfriend. The only thing that had ever prompted him to tell people he was single was fear. Fear of not being accepted, fear of being bullied and fear of seeing Oliver get hurt.
      But he’d had enough of that now. The war had been terrible, unspeakably so, but it had taught him a thing or two about being afraid - he was still undecided on whether he should be grateful or traumatised, but at the very least it meant he was never going to let something as silly as the possibility of getting some dirty looks from colleagues get him down ever again.
      Oliver had looked a little startled when they were walking down Diagon Alley and Percy had suddenly taken his hand, but once he had realised Percy wasn’t letting go, a grin had spread across his face. Percy had smiled back and decided this decision was already more than worth anything they’d have to deal with.
