6. Theory of a Deadman - All or nothing
Looking at all or nothing
Babe it's you and I
With you I know that I'm good for something
So let's go and give it a try
We've got our backs against the ocean
It's just us against the world
Looking at all or nothing, babe it's you and I
Looking at all or nothing, babe it's you and I.
It had always been them, together. Right now, it wasn’t. Somewhere over the course of the past few months it had changed. It was a terrible realisation, scary as hell, but Percy knew that the us had become you and me. The difference sounded small and insignificant, but it was there nonetheless, and it felt huge. From the way Oliver acted around him Percy concluded he was not the only one who saw the distance between them growing.
He wanted nothing more than to rewind. To go back to a moment when everything was still fine, when Percy still knew how to talk to Oliver, when Oliver didn’t start frowning whenever Percy so much as mentioned his work. Percy wasn’t entirely certain what had gone wrong, but he was sure they could fix it if they gave it another chance. He still had hope, even if Oliver had been awfully quiet. Maybe they could start again.
But another part of him knew the thought of starting over was an illusion. There was no way back, not anymore. Too much damage had been done already, they couldn’t just get over it and go back to normal. This time, it was all or nothing. They needed to talk. Really talk, and Percy knew it would only be worse if they tried to put if off any longer.
He just wished he could. He really wished he could, because he had a terrible feeling the apartment would become scarily empty after this talk.
