The killer party
'Watch yourself,' she said before I left. 'I don't want you to break your arm again.'
'I won't, mom, I'll be careful,' I said. I didn't mean it, I just said it to please her so she'd not be worried. 'Bye!' I yelled as I went out. I closed the door behind me and walked to the mall, where my friends were waiting for me.
'Hey, Jane,' they said when I arrived.
'Hey you guys,' I said, 'what did you want me to come here for?'
'We,' Sharon said in delight, 'are going to search for an empty building. To have a party in.'
'Isn't that illegal?' I asked. I wasn't too happy with this plan. What if the police showed up? Or something would go wrong and we'd accidentally set the house on fire? I was afraid.
'Of course not! Come on, Jane, are you going to be a chicken?' Jason asked. They started making chicken noises, they were laughing at me and making fun of me.
'Stop it, you,' I said, 'instead of laughing at me, let's go find ourselves an empty building.'
Everyone nodded their heads happily. If only I knew what I was getting myself into...
We walked into the city centre, laughing and talking. My friends were looking around, searching for old buildings. 'Ah, let's pick this one,' Sharon said, pointing at a coffeeshop. Jason, Miranda, Sam and Robbie bursted out in laughter. I looked at Leon, and he looked back. I noticed that he looked like he was thinking 'What did I get myself into?'. And I was thinking exactly the same. We walked on into the city centre. After a while, we found an empty building. Everyone was excited about this building, except for Leon and me. 'So, the appointment has been made,' Miranda said, 'tonight, eight o'clock, this building. Invite as many people as possible, okay?'
'I'M HOOOOOMEEEEEEE!' I screamed. My mother came walking down the stairs. 'Hi sweetheart, how was school?' 'Neh, boring as ever,' I said. I went up to my room. Just when I sat down on my bed, my phone rang. It was Leon. 'Hey Leon!' 'Hey Anna, how are you?' 'Fine, thanks,' I said, 'what is it you want to talk to me about?' 'The party.' I got a weird feeling when he said it. 'Listen,' he said, 'I don't think we should go to the party. It just doesn't feel right.' 'I was thinking the same thing, but I'm afraid they'll laugh at me for not coming.' 'Don't be afraid, it's just them. You'll always have me.' 'I know, I know,' I said, 'but I think I'll go anyways... Will you please come along?' 'Because it's you... Okay then, I will.' 'Thank you so much, Leon!' 'It's okay, little one. I'll meet you tonight. Bye!' 'Bye,' I said, before ending the phone call.
We stood in front of the building. We were with about 80 people. 'Let's go inside!' Sam screamed. They broke the door and went in. I looked at Leon, I was a bit scared. He said 'Calm down, it's gonna be okay.' He grabbed my hand and took me inside the building. The music was playing loudly and I started dancing a little. After a while I was actually having fun, just dancing with Leon, Miranda, Sam and Sharon. Jason was busy trying to talk to a girl, Jennifer, who was clearly not interested.
'You like the party?' Leon asked. Just when I was about to say yeah, I heard someone scream. 'EVERYBODY DOWN, NOW!' I stood there, completely in shock. Someone holding a gun had entered. 'Anna, get to the floor!' Miranda screamed. I realised I was the only one still standing and I collapsed to the floor. I heard shots, I heard a man scream and I heard people cry. Leon said to me 'Anna, if we die here... I want you to know that I love you...' I looked at him and smiled. 'I love you too, Leon..' After a while, the shots stopped. It was completely silent for a moment, then I started crying. I couldn't believe what had just happened. Leon took me into his arms, he was crying too. 'It's okay,' he told me, 'it's over.' I stopped crying and looked at him. He looked away from me, I could see he was hesitating to say something to me. 'What is it, Leon?' 'Did you...' he started. 'Did I what?' 'Did you mean what you said before?' 'That I love you? I sure did, I meant that... Did you?' 'Maybe this will explain if I meant it,' he said. He leaned towards me and kissed me softly. And me? I was in heaven.
