He finally said; “Of course I would… But… It’s not…” He gasped a little and continued. “Possible.”
“It is. Dr. Carlisle will help you out of this. It will hurt… A lot. And you won’t be allowed to see anybody anymore for a long time... But you will live.”
“How?”
“Carlisle is a vampire. He can turn you, Edward. Right now, he is attending other patients, but let me tell you, if you want to stay… He could make sure you would.” Edwards eyes opened wide.
“The things you are saying… are ridiculous… Yet, I believe… you.” He smiled faintly at me, and then frowned again.
“How do you… know? Tell me… Everything.” He breathed hard, his hands shaking above the blanket. I took them both in my hands, stroking them and soothing them.
“I’ve had my suspicions since the day I met him.” I took a deep breath. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before now, but I wanted you to know at least one big secret of the world before you… left. I wanted to leave you with something I knew nobody else could leave to you.”
“Is there… a way to… stay?” he asked, his voice weak in pain.
“Yes, for eternity.”
