T H E      D O R M S

OPHELIA HALL
Ophelia (/oʊˈfiːliə/) is a character in William Shakespeare's drama Hamlet (1599–1601). She is a young noblewoman of Denmark, the daughter of Polonius, sister of Laertes and potential wife of Prince Hamlet, who, due to Hamlet's actions, ends up in a state of madness that ultimately leads to her drowning. Along with Queen Gertrude, Ophelia is one of only two female characters in the original play.

CARMILLA TOWER
Carmilla is a Gothic novel by Irish author Sheridan Le Fanu. The book is about a young girl who is seduced by a female vampire. The story has been adapted into films several times, and is considered, along with Bram Stoker's Dracula, one of the most important early works of modern vampire fiction. It was written before Dracula in 1872. The tragedy ends in the death of Carmilla, and her lover Laura reminiscing about her, and saying that she sometimes fancies that she hears Carmilla's footsteps at her door.

these dorms are from the third floor onwards fully claimed by the students and not accessible to people who do not sleep there.

THE GALILEO DORMS
Galileo Galilei was a mathematician and astronomer who proposed a heliocentric model of the universe that placed the Sun, rather than the Earth, at the center of the known planets and fixed stars, but his "outcast" views led to disbelief. Galileo was found "vehemently suspect of heresy", namely of having held the opinions that the Sun lies motionless at the centre of the universe, that the Earth is not at its centre and moves, and that one may hold and defend an opinion as probable after it has been declared contrary to Holy Scripture. On 26 Febraury 1616, Galileo Galilei was formally banned and banished by the Roman Catholic Church for teaching and defending his ''outcast'' thinking.

^^the walls, floors, windows etc like this. Stone walls. Dark wood floors. Small light.

^^ this is the space. Desk inbetween.

THE MEDUSA WING
A woman of notable beauty, Medusa was pursued by the sea god Poseidon. Medusa fled from Poseidon and arrived at a shrine to Athena, but Poseidon entered anyway and violated the woman. Athena blamed Medusa for her own suffering and for violating the sacred space by turning her into a monster. Medusa was a priestess to Athena, and she couldn't punish Poseidon because he was a very powerful god. She had to help Medusa in a way that would seem to others like punishment but was really protection. Athena took away her looks by turning her into a monster, and she gave her the power to turn any man into stone.
