File one Katarina’s journey to past and future

Winds is blows in my ears while we are falling to the ground. “I am not ready to die”: I cry out. Percy looks at me completely lost I reach for his hands and he takes mine tight. He looks down but I can’t put myself to do that. “We are saved”: he yell, I look at him confused. Percy starts to move his lips but I can’t hear what he is saying. Then we fall down in the lake we were flying over. That’s what Percy meant with saved, he prayed to his dad. Percy is incredible heavy I think he is unconscious. We still sink but I can’t hold my breath much longer with Percy I swim to the surface. The pegasi circle above me and land at the edge of the lake. “We are ALIVE thank you Poseidon”: I scream and swim towards the pegasi. I throw Percy on the grass with a little help of Blackjack and fall down myself. I close my eyes and try to catch my breath again. Blackjack and Brody snort so I open my eyes again and get up. Out my luckily waterproof backpack I take some sugar cubes and give them to the horses then I focus on Percy. I bend over him to see if he is still breathing which he does. “Thank the gods”: I whisper, “except Zeus”. Percy opens his eyes and blink a few times but starts to change immediately. He coughs and allot of water comes out of his mouth. “Percy are you okay”: I ask. He blinks again and sits up. “What happened Kat?”: he asks even his voice changed. “Percy is that you?”: I ask him. “Yes Kat hit your head and forgot me already. Yes it’s me Percy you left camp half-blood with me to go on a quest”, well at least his is still sarcastic. “I am fine but Percy what is your gender?”: I say careful. “That’s an weird question can’t you see I am a boy. You sure you didn’t hit your head”. I scratches the back of my neck and shakes my head. “Very funny Zeus”: I scream to the sky. “Don’t insult him Gods are not great enemies”: says Percy but thunder sounds already. “I am not afraid”, “You should be Kat, I have experience with a God as enemy”: he mumble and shivers. “Percy maybe you should check yourself”. “What why am I hurt”. “No but I know now what that terrible change thing meant”: I say with a sad / unhappy look on my face. “What, what did it meant, what happened to me?”: he ask. Out the pocket of my jeans I pull out my Swiss army knife and flip the largest knife out. “Take a look yourself”: I say and give him the knife. He pulls it in front of his face and uses it like a mirror. “O MY GODS I AM A GIRL”: he screams.

“What? How? Why?”. “All very good questions but I have no answers for you”: I say. “I even have boobs”: he mumbles and looks down on them. I cover my smile with my hand because how much this situation may suck his face right now is priceless. I clear my throat, “Not that I don’t find this very disturbing and feel bad for you but I think we should keep moving or at least find out where we are now”. “Your right”: mumbles Percy and gives me my knife back. “It’s going to be okay”: I promises but I am not sure if I can keep that promise. We walk out of the forest where the lake was in and come out on a road. I look at the sun for directions and figure out where north is and head that way. “Won’t nobody notice the giant wings on our horses?”: I ask Percy. “The magical mist prevents mortals from seeing our world in their own. Only a few people like Rachel and my mom can look through the mist”: says Percy. “Oh yeah that’s true, the mist”: I mumble. Suddenly Percy turns to Brody with an angry look on his face, Brody takes a step back. “What’s up?”: I ask, “He called me ma’am”: roars Percy and points to Brody. I try my best to keep a straight face but I can’t and laugh. “Yeah yeah very funny laugh at the boy who changed into a girl”: grumbles Percy, “Oh and there is a road sign”. “Great only 1 mile until a town called Thunder Bay. We are in Canada already”. “Yippy”: grumbles Percy, “And what now I mean flying is not an option for now”. “You are right, do you have a drivers licence?”. “Yes and you?”. “Yep”. “So now what?”: he asks again. “Simple we steal a van”. Surprised he looks at me, “Well we have no other option so let’s do it”.

Together and followed by Blackjack and Brody we walk into the town. “Kat people are staring at us right or is it just me”. “Yes that’s probably because we are soaked followed by horses and I carry bow and quiver”: I answer him. “So where do you think we can get a van?”: Percy asks. “Leave that to me”. I walk towards the first people who walk by which are a boy and a girl. “Excuse me can you tell me if I can rent cars here?”: I ask them. “No sorry don’t know, we are just trespassers ourselves”: says the boy. “Where do you have to go?”: the girl asks to me. “Euhm Grand Forks, North Dakota”: I answer. “Follow us”: is the only thing the boy says. I walk back to Percy and tell him about the conversation. “Can we trust them?”: Percy asks. “I don’t think we can’t trust anybody but maybe we can get somewhere with these people”: I say, Percy nods and together we follow them. “I am Jack and this is Esmeralda”: says the boy. “I am Katarina and this is”, then I shut up how should I call Percy now, I look at him for help. “Perrie”: he mumbles then. “And how do you girls get so wet if I may ask”: says Jack. “We were riding by the lake when our horses got scared of something and throw us off now they don’t want us to ride them anymore”: lies Percy smooth. "Stubborn and proud animals horses”: says Esmeralda, I nod agreeing.

Then we arrive in some sort of camp, they are defiantly gipsy’s. “Madam Lotus will decide if you can ride with us. She is like the leader and not so fond of strangers”: explains Esmeralda. “Then why did they bring us here”: Percy whispers to me, “How should I know”: I whisper back. We stand still before a large tent made form very bright colours it’s also the only tent still standing. “Come in”: sounds the voice of an older woman. “Go”: says Jack and opens the tent for us. A man leads the pegasi away into some sort of horse trailer. “Aha I have been expecting you my young travellers”: she says, “You can call me Lotus”. Percy and I exchange looks this can’t be good. “No worries I am no monster”: she says but it doesn’t makes me feel comfortable. “Percy I know you have met Luke Castellans mother I am like her but only less side effects. The Gods have been kind to me”: she says looking at Percy. “And young Florica I have been looking forward to meet you since the day you disappeared. I’ve known your mother she was a kind woman, you look so different from her”. I swallow and look confused at the old lady. “It may all be a shock for now but we will bring you to Grand Forks and then Apollo will lift my curse for good. It takes great magic to keep the side effects under control”. “May I ask something?”: I ask. “Sure my dear but choose wise the Gods only gave me the power to answer one question each”. “But I have so many”: I mumble. “Think about it and ask me tomorrow you too Percy”. “Jack”: she shouts. “Yes Madam Lotus”, “Please bring them to the extra carriage”. “Ofcours follow me”: Jack says and walks out, we follow him again. “This will be your home until we are wherever you need to be”: says Jack and opens the door from the trailer. “Honey where are you”: I hear somebody shout and Esmeralda comes out way. “Right here Madam Lotus asked me to escort them to a trailer”: Jack says. “You two are a couple”: blurts Percy out. “Well actually we are married”: says Jack and Esmeralda puts up her hand to show the ring. “Woah”: is the only thing I can say. “I need Jack now can I take him?”: asks Esmeralda. “Yeah sure”: says Percy. Together they walk off, “They are about our ages”: I say completely blown away, Percy only nods.

Together we step into the trailer, there is a small kitchen with flip down table, two stretchers and a door probably with little bathroom behind it. “Do you mind if I take a nap?”: Percy asks. “No problem I stay guard just in case”: I say, Percy puts up his thumb and lies down on one of the stretchers. Within no time he is snoring he is probably used to catch sleep when you can. I don’t, I only know that yesterday was the weirdest day out of my life. I think about what Lotus said, she knew my mom, called me Florica I think and I can only ask her one thing. While I am thinking the trailer starts to shake, “We are leaving”: some men shouts from outside. The shaking is nice, makes my head feel clear like I ’m sitting on a branch. Suddenly some mist cloud gathers in front of me. “Wtf”: I mumble. “Katarina is that you?”: Annabeth asks. “What is this?”: I ask back and want to touch it. “Don’t touch it than it will disappear and I don’t have money for another call”. “Okay I will ask Percy about this later. Why this weird kind of call Annabeth?”. “I have to go on a quest to Europe Athena asked for me she needs me for something. I am going to France to be exact will you tell Percy”. “Sure but now we are talking about Percy anyway, we found out what the terrible change meant”. “What is he okay?”: she asked frightened. “Yeah he is fine only he is a she now. Zeus blasted us out of the sky with lightning, thanks for that again, and when he woke up he changed into a girl”. While I shout at Zeus he is offended apparently because lightning flashes across the sky again. “Percy is a girl now”, Annabeth confused and lost. “Everything will turn out fine Anna I promise”. “Yeah yeah”: she mumbles but her mind is somewhere else. “Just focus on whatever your mother needs you for okay Anna, I will take care of Percy and make sure we find a cure for his condition”. “Thanks Kat, your right mom goes first. I hope that you find out your faith”. “I hope so too oh and before I forget we met this women”: I say and tell her about the conversation with Lotus. “Kat I would not stay to long with this people just take the ride and then get away from them”. “Yeah I know it just doesn’t feels right”: I mumble and the cloud disappears. After four hours of boring myself to death we stand still. When I look outside through the window I see a sign with the name Bemidji on it also it’s getting darker outside. “Percy”: I say, no response, “Percy”: I say again louder, no response. “Percy”: I shout and he finally gets up. “What is something wrong?”. “Nothing we stopped and I wanted to ask if you wanted to switch and maybe eat something”. “Yeah sure we can switch”: he mumbles sleepy. “Nice oh and Annabeth call through this mist cloud. She is going to France because Athena needs her for some quest”. I get up and get some cheese and bread out of my backpack. I give half of both to Percy and sit down on the stretcher next to Percy. “Gods hardly need their kids and mostly when they do it’s not a good sign”. “I have no idea Percy I am pretty new in this world. Wake me when we are in Grand Forks”: I mumble and eat my last piece of bread. Percy gets up and sits down on the floor. “Yeah ofcours. Night Kat”: he says but he sounds far away. “It will be fine Percy”: I say lie down and fall asleep.
