File one Katarina’s journey to past and future

Green June who actually is called Juniper and is a dryad is pulling me back up the hill back to this weird camp. “You will love it here”: says June, “I live over there in the forest and you will live in one of the cabins”. “Who says I want to live here?”: I ask. “Ofcours you want to live here you are part of this world, otherwise you couldn’t break through the wall that protects the camp. Normally a demigod gets claimed by his or her godly parent at the age of thirteen but because you don’t know yet you will stay in the Hermes cabin”. June keeps chattering about this camp while we are walking through it, I tell you this place is nuts, they have a climbing wall with real lava. Fun summer camp you can die from adventure. We walk by volleyball courts, fields filled with strawberries, something that looks like an medieval workstation. June stops in front of something that looks like a barn. “You are going to love this”: she says and pulls me inside but there are no horses but pegasi. “Seriously horses with wings ofcours you have horses with wings”: I sigh. “Don’t insult them”: tells somebody behind me. I turn around where a tall Asian girl with black hair, brown eyes lined with pink eyeliner is standing further she wears allot of bracelets, horseback riding jeans and boots who look as good as new. “Drew this is Katarina she is new at camp”: says June quick to her. “So hon, who is your godly parent?”: Drew asks. “I don’t know, I don’t even care”: I mumble. “Good luck finding out and have fun in the Hermes cabin”: she says contempt and walks to a white pegasus. “Let’s go on with the tour”: says June and drags be out of the stables. We walk at the border of the forest past some sort of weapon station and something that looks like a gladiator arena. “Such a lovely place June perfect summer vacaay address”: mumble I when I see the lava climbing wall again. “Come on Kat I will show you the cabins you will love them”.

Finally she let’s go of me, while she is skipping away, I walk after her. “These are the cabins of Zeus and Hera”: she says and points to the two biggest cabins. The one for Zeus looks like a white marble box with black and white pillars around it, the front door is polished bronze with lighting flashes on them. It is further decorated with the moving mosaic of cloudy sky and lighting. To be short it looks like a bank with lightning theme. The one for Hera is smaller but still a marble box. The cabin is more graceful with smaller pillars which are decorated with pomegranates and flowers. In the walls of the cabins are peacocks carved in that’s Hera’s symbol. “And over there are the man cabins and that are the female cabins and the Dionysus cabin”: June is chattering again about the cabins but I don’t hear her anymore and look at them calmly. Poseidon’s cabin is more some sort of bungalow with only windows with sea view. The walls are grey covered with shells and coral which makes it look like a sea bottom. Across from Poseidon’s cabin is the Demeter cabin with grass covering the roof and tomato vines growing up along the walls. Wild flowers are growing on the porch and the parts of wall you can see are dark brown. Next to the Poseidon cabin is a bad red painted building with barbwire around the roof and a boar head above the door. It looks like the eyes of the boar are following you everywhere. I hear June say it’s the Ares cabin. On the opposite side is something that looks like a shed completely from metal. The building is blue and gold with an owl cut above the door and white curtains in front of the windows. Because of the owl I think that’s the Athena cabin. Next is a cabin that looks like my dad’s cabin in the woods only is this one completely gold, probably Apollo’s cabin being the sun god and all. Across is the same building only silver like my bow, which I still carry on my back, only this cabin is decorated with paintings and carvings from wild animals but the stag comes back most. That must be Artemis her cabin out of all the gods and goddesses, she is my favourite from the stories I heard in Greek Mythology. The Hephaestus cabin looks like a small factory with thee smoking pipes coming out of it. And across from the factory is a big version of a white and pink Barbie doll house its smells so strong to perfume I want to puck. Next to the Barbie house is a house completely covered in wine vines absolutely sure that is Dionysus cabin. “Kat, Katarina are you even listening this is going to be your cabin for now”: says June and turns me around,

where I see the most ugly cabin ever. It looks the most like a normal summer camp cabin but this one you would expect to see in an abandoned camp that’s been closed for years. The brown, red paint is hanging loose, the doorstep is completely worn out and the door is hanging croaked in his frame. Above the door is the universal doctors sign you know the one with the two snakes around a stick. “What do you think?”: June asks me “Charming”: I say sarcastically. She sighs, “Come on Kat I will introduce you”, she takes my arm again and drags me to the cabin. Behind me are eight more cabins but June gives me no time to check them out and knocks so hard on the door that I think it’s going to fall. The door goes open with allot of noise and two guys appear in the doorframe. The boys are tall and slim with brown curling hair and blue eyes. They have croaked smiles and a dangerous shine in their eyes. Just like Percy they wear that ugly orange shirt with baggy shorts and flip-flops. “What is a dryad doing here with a Huntress?”: asks one of the boys. “I am not a Huntress I never took the oath, Jesus is everybody here this judge mental”: I mumble and walk the cabin in. “HEY”: they scream at the same time. “Good luck and have fun”: June shouts and disappears in green mist again. “Jezz thanks June”. The cabin looks worse on the inside and now I get what Drew meant, this place is a mess. There are three bunk beds with three beds above each other, two hang mats and a few sleeping-bags on the floor. “So if you’re not a Huntress are you a sister then?”: somebody asks me. “I am not even sure if I am a demigod”: I say for like the ten time today. “Well I am Connor and this is Travis and we’re the cabin counsellors”: says one of the boys who opened the door. “I am Katarina, I am completely confused and my back hurts”. “So how did you end up here?”: Travis asks me. I start telling about today, my birthday, training, how I got attacked, June who sent me here and my arrival. “Apollo maybe”, “That can work or Athena”, “Maybe Nemesis or Hebe”. “I am not going to serve anybody”: I interrupt all their speculations. “You know without knowing”: Connor says. “No I had lessons in Greek mythology at school. I was really good at it except the Greek parts I suck in ancient Greek”. “You’re not dyslexic and can’t read Greek?”: asks another camper how introduce himself as Jack. “Nope not dyslexic at all and I even had an D for ancient Greek once”. Than some bell sounds, “Dinner this is going to be fun”: Chris says. “How can dinner be fun?”: I ask. “Just follow us”: Connor says. “Also during dinner the most demigods get claimed”: says Travis. “And it’s Friday so after sundown we play capture the flag”: says Jack. Capture the flag?”. “I will explain during dinner”: says Jack. In some sort of line we walk out of the cabin we walk along the left the backside of the shower and toilet rooms and right the lake. We stop in the open-air pavilion I saw earlier but now close up I can see a big gab in the floor. “How comes that crack there?”: I ask. “Don’t ask Nico doesn’t like people talking about it”: says Chris.

There are twenty tables for each cabin one I guess. Some of the tables are empty some are filled with one or two persons and some are full like the Hermes cabin and the 12th table. At that table sits a grown men in an Hawaii shirt with one blond copy of himself and further is the table filled with satyrs. Also I see my dad sitting on the seventh table by my count is that the Apollo table, so my dad is an Apollo demigod explains the archery skills. I look again at the grown men in Hawaii shirt. “That’s mister D the head of the camp”: says Jack, “I have no idea who that grown man is”, and he nods towards my dad. I nod, “That’s my dad”: I tell him and look at my plate which is filled with food. Bread, cheese, grapes, strawberries and steak. So much food I haven’t had in a long time. “Katarina come on”: says Chris. “Doing what?”: I ask. “Offering some of your food to the gods”. I pick up my plate and walk after the boys than I notice I am the only girl in the Hermes cabin. I am the last from the Hermes cabin and I dump some bread, cheese and all my grapes in the fire. “Please however is listening explain me why I am here”: I whisper and walk back to the table on my way I wave to my dad who smiles back. I sit down between Chris and Jack, Chiron talks short about something I don’t understand and then we are allowed to eat. “Don’t you want to drink something?”: Jack asks me. “That would be nice”: I say. “Then ask your cup”: says Chris. “Ask my cup”. “Yes anything you want non-alcoholic ofcours”. “This place is nuts”: I mumble so nobody hears me and take my cup. “Euhm cup peach ice tea please”, and the cup fills itself. “That’s kind of cool”: I admit.

Suddenly Conner and Travis start counting down but so soft only our table can hear it. At zero a small explosion sounds from the 5th table. A girl the size of a bodybuilder stands up straight “Stoll’s”: she shouts and looks our way. “That was the Ares table right”: I ask Jack, he nods trying to hold his laugh. Connor and Travis fell from the table from laughter. The girl looks so mad but she is covered in food which makes it so funny I can’t hold my laugh either. “Maybe just maybe I can get used to this”: I laugh. The girl and her table walk off super mad. “If you already liked that then wait to capture the flag you will love that”: says Paul another Hermes camper. “Ohyeah Jack will you explain that”, Jack starts to tell me the point of that game. “So we play this game for honor but we use real weapons so we can get hurt?”: I ask just to be sure. “Yep”: says Chris and nods. “Sounds fun right”: says Jack happy. “Super”: I mumble and we are back to what is this a weird place. After dinner Chiron starts to talk again mostly about the game he also tells the teams again. Which are Poseidon, Athena, Apollo, Nemesis, Nike, Hades and Hermes VS Dionysus, Demeter, Aphrodite, Ares, Hephaestus, Iris, Hebe, Tyche and Hecate. “But Aphrodite and Hebe campers don’t fight just like the Hypnos camper who almost always sleep and the Hades camper which is one person is not here right now”: Chris whispers to me. “By the woods in an hour please”: says Chiron and walks off. “Come let’s find you an armour”: says Connor. “I don’t fight in armour just me and my bow and arrows”: I say and walk with them back to the cabin. “Do you wanna die?”: Travis asks. “No I know what I am doing I just need some tape or bandages”. “We can get you that”: says Connor and walks off with Travis. That’s how everybody starts to prepare for this game that everybody takes way to serious. I think after all I can get used to this place.
